Fireplace

Have the gas fireplace inspected before heating season

Gas fireplaces still rely on safe combustion, venting, ignition and controls.

How to handle this maintenance item

  1. Check the glass, visible venting and surrounding clearances.
  2. Have ignition, burner condition, controls and venting inspected as recommended by the manufacturer.
  3. Stop using the unit if you notice gas odor, soot or abnormal flame behavior.

Before you start

Use the equipment manual and model-specific instructions as the primary source. Shut off power, water or fuel only when the manufacturer procedure calls for it and you are comfortable identifying the correct control. Stop if the condition you find is different from what the guide describes.

When to bring in a professional

Hire a qualified professional if you cannot safely access the equipment, find leaks/damage, cannot identify the correct part or shutoff, or the manufacturer instructions differ from this guide.
